The Devastating Case of Trayvon Martin

This isn’t a political blog, in fact far from it. But after seeing about this on Twitter, and reading about it further, there are no words for this situation. To shoot a child {Trayvon Martin} in cold blood when all he had in his hands was a bag of skittles and a tea just amazes me. It reminds me of my post on race.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the story. A 17 year old boy left his home in pursuit of a snack at the local convenient store. Upon leaving the store, he was spotted by the self proclaimed neighborhood watchman, whom determined that the boy with his skittles and tea looked suspicious.

This neighborhood watchman called 9-1-1 to report the boy and was instructed not to pursue him. Ignoring these instructions, the man pursued the child and entered into an altercation with him. Screams for help were silenced by a fatal bullet wound. The shooter has not been arrested.

I am writing about this for two reason. It sheds light on the times we are in and the struggles our youth are now faced with {some new, some continuous, and some resurfacing}. We must be proactive in equipping them spiritually because it seems as though we are losing them more and more to suicide, senseless acts of violence, and the curse of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Secondly, as I mentioned above the issue of race seems to continuously come up in these stories that get international, national, and local coverage. I am presented with this question:

How do we untrain people who have been indoctrinated for hundreds of years concerning race?

I can’t speak enough on how important it is for the Kingdom to reject the ways of the world.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2 NKJV)

It is not just racism, prejudice and discrimination that can be categorized as such. Race, separating people by the color of their skin {not that skin color is the dividing line anymore} is a construct of the world. It has been and is still being used in order to divide the Kingdom.

It needs to stop and the answer is a mind renewal. We are all in need of one on the subject.

Please go to this website and sign the petition. It’s easy to get angry at the shooter, I admit I was at first, but he needs prayer as well.
