Healing is a promise that is in the Word of God. Any promise is accessible to you and you should not settle for anything less than what God says.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5
Since we are discussing sickness let’s focus on “and with his stripes we are healed”. Stripes refers to lashings Jesus was given prior to crucifixion. As evidence of this fact, Paul even talks about the 40 minus 1 stripes that he received (2 Corinthians 11:23,24). In Isaiah 53:5, the word stripes is the Hebrew word chabûrâh and it means bound (with stripes), a weal (or black and blue mark itself).
There is much discussion on whether or not this scripture encompasses physical healing of sickness or ailments. The word healed comes from the Hebrew word râphâh. You may recognize this word, it is where Jehovah Rophe, God of healing, comes from. Anyways, râphâh means to mend (by stitching), to cure, heal, a restoring to normal, not only are human diseases healed but bad water, salt water, pottery, nations, foreign nations and powers, etc.
It is clear then that this scripture is saying that Jesus’ crucifixion, specifically lashes he received, has healed us. Note that the word healed is in the past tense. It is not saying that we will be healed, we may be healed. It is saying that at the cross, by the blood of Jesus, it is already done.
That statement leads me to my next point. If we received healing at the cross, why are we still experiencing sickness within our bodies?
There are multiple answers for this. I don’t think there is one cookie cutter situation. I think everyone needs to seek God for themselves in all areas of their life, including their health; however, I will point out a scripture…
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3 John 1:2
Here, the word soul comes from the Greek word psuchē. This word means breath!!! Lets apply this word to the scripture, you can prosper and be in health according to your BREATH or what you SPEAK!
Now what is He applying breath to in this scripture? Prosper comes from the Greek word euodoo and it means to help on the road, to help on one’s way, to have a prosperous journey, succeed in reaching, and also to prosper. The word health comes from the Greek word hugiaino which means just that, health. So with these Greek words in mind it is saying that we can prosper and be in health according to what we speak.
Stand on the Word of God and utilize relevant scriptures in prayer and meditation. Release your faith over your health and believe that
you are healed.
