Enduring Trials and Temptation

I usually spend time in the Word in the morning in order to prepare myself for the day. Two days ago I went to the Word and the Lord brought me to James chapter 1; James 1:2 really struck my spirit.

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, (James 1:2 NKJV)

I knew immediately that the Lord was preparing me for what was to come throughout the rest of the day. I’m glad the Lord had me to read and meditate on this verse because the amount of attacks I experienced that day was incredible, almost laughable.

I think this scripture is vital to the season we are in and a full understanding of it is necessary to put it into practice.

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. (James 1:2, 3 NKJV)

The word trials in verse 2 comes from the Greek word peirasmos and it means temptation or test. Joy in verse 2 comes from the Greek word chara meaning joy that comes from grace. Note that the word charis means grace. In verse 3, the word testing comes from the Greek word dokímion and it means a testing, more specifically, what is found genuine after testing.

When you fall into trials and temptations look upon it with joy, even if a decision/mistake made by you leads to the trial or temptation. The Bible says to look upon all of it with joy knowing that God grants grace to the Believer.

The circumstances that you are in whether they be trials or temptations, will render your faith genuine, helping you to endure and trust God in trials and temptations to come.

Even when you don’t necessarily feel joyous about your situation, praise God verbally until your emotions submit to God’s Word. When something occurs that is trying to make you feel in a way that is contrary to how God wants you to feel, just laugh, turn on some praise and worship music. Remember that you have victory through Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57, 1 John 5:4, Philippians 4:13). The enemy wants you to feel discouraged, disappointed, fearful, angry, etc; do not give him his wish!

Let faith reign within your heart, mind and spirit and stand on God’s word!

2. Abraham, Sarah and Isaac: Genesis 15-17; 18:1-15; 21:1-21; 22:1-19

3. Elijah: 1 Kings 17-19
